THE HOWARDIAN HILLS

Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

This circular walk linking three churches and a ruined priory to the south of Castle Howard wanders through undulating countryside with extensive and varied views close by the River Derwent. The area is rich in woodland, carpeted with bluebells in the spring.

The centrepiece of this beautiful area is the magnificent stately home of Castle Howard with its lawns, lake, fountains and arboretum. The house contains many paintings, fine porcelain and furniture. There is also a garden centre and tea room.
