Built in 14th Century Gothic style between 1857 and 1865 by the 7th Earl of Carlisle of Castle Howard at the request of the villagers. He provided the site and much of the funds.

ST JOHN'S CHURCH, WHITWELL-ON-THE-HILL

Standing high on the hill, St John's has a conspicuous spire that can be seen for many miles around. Built in 1860 by the Lechmere family of Whitwell Hall, it has an impressive lectern in the shape of a pelican, solid oak pews, a sumptuously carved reredos by Earp and fine stained glass windows. The east window is a depiction of Mary and St John.

ST MICHAEL'S CHURCH, CRAMBE

Begun in the 11th century, it was altered significantly up to the 15th century, when the tower was built. St Michael's serves the two parishes of Crambe and Barton le Willows. The interior contains a fine 12th century font, a 16th century pulpit and altar rails and an important Georgian chamber organ dated circa 1790. It has one stained glass window and several stone carvings, both inside and out.
